Eve Online suffers DDOS attack

Posted by: TimW on 06/03/2013 03:32 PM [ comments Comments ]

Eve Online, a game run by CCP Games, has suffered a distributed denial-of-service attack for the last two days. The company develops and runs the popular massively multiplayer online role playing game (MMORPG) EVE Online. Details of the attack were published by the company. Once the attack was discovered, the Tranquility server was taken off line. The vulnerability has been closed and all game services are back to normal.

Tranquility is one of three server clusters and houses all gameplay for non-Chinese players. Also affected were the players of the PlayStation 3 exclusive first-person shooter Dust 514. The company says that after a thorough scan of its infrastructure, it is now sure that the vulnerability used in the attack has been closed. The company kept the players apprised of the situation through its Twitter account and has also announced that it will compensate players for the time the servers were down. Customer data was neither compromised nor accessible to the attackers according to the statement.
