Hackers know no bounds it seems. Disney has announced that it has shut down its Playdom forums due to a security breach.
The forums were breached on July 9 and then again on July 12. According to Disney, the forums have 355,000 users.
The forums are for interactive games such as Star Wars: Commander, Marvel: Avengers Alliance (MAA), Marvel: Avengers Alliance Mobile (mMAA),and Disney Hidden Worlds (HW).
The breach allowed the hacker to steal usernames, email addresses, and passwords. However, researchers have said that the platform is run on an older version of vBulletin. It is currently running the old v4 platform, considered insecure.
In the meantime, Disney has discontinued the forums and substituted new forums with better security features. Two separate forums have been created to run Marvel Avengers Alliance and Star Wars Commander.
Disney is recommending that all users be sure to change passwords not only on the forums but on any site where they use the same password.
