At Def Con., even 10 year olds are learning to hack. Organizers are trying to teach youngsters they can use hacking for good. One of the contests featured sites like “Glitter” and “Fersberk.”
“I don’t really hack things with the government yet,” said one youngster from Toronto who said he wants to use hacking to promote free speech.
The problem is making sure they are learning how to hack for good, not evil. When the child posted on his Facebook page that he and his friends should try to crash law enforcement websites, his uncle arranged that his sister’s boss would call the 10-year-old and pretended to be the police investigating him.
“Sooner or later he’ll figure out what’s right and what’s wrong,” the uncle said.
