F-Secure warning to XP users

Posted by: Timothy Weaver on 03/04/2014 04:26 PM [ comments Comments ]

On the heels of Microsofts warning to XP users, F-Secure warns that a powerful zero-day attack against Windows XP is a matter of when, not if.

It advises users that that “folks that continue to use XP at home can do so with some reasonable amount of safety, for a while still, but they absolutely need to review their Internet (particularly Web browsing) and computing habits.”

F-secure gives these warnings:
1) install the final updates for Windows XP from Microsoft
2) make sure Microsoft Office is fully patched
3) ensure that third-party software is patched and updated
4) use a firewall and antimalware protection

To be fair, these are guidelines that any windows user should be practicing.

The complete report can be found here.
