According to researchers at Trend Micro, scammers are using Facebook to persuade victims to download what they say is a Google Chrome video installer file.
The finding was reported by fraud Analyst Christopher Talampas of Trend Micro after a friend sent a message with the shortened link.
If you were to click the link, you would be taken to a fake Facebook page that automatically downloaded a file titled Chrome_Video_installer.scr. The victim is supposed to believe the file is what is needed to view the video, but instead downloads malware detected as TROJ_KILIM.EFLD.
This variant is supposed to download another file with the final payload. So far, only 5% of the victims are in the US.
