Facebook "Lower My Bills" ad trickery

My partner, Jim on Majorgeeks, calls me this morning and says “did you like Lower My Bills on Facebook” and I suspect he knew the answer. No, I like very few companies on Facebook. Trick here is that on his news feed it showed him that I did like the page.

Frankly, I wonder how and why this is done and don’t like a website as large as Facebook running around telling people I liked something I didn’t. As you can see in the screenshot, the upper portion is Jim’s feed and when I loaded Facebook, as seen in the lower half, I don’t like this page.

So, just a heads up. Don’t like, comment or give these scam artists anything. This should not be allowed. What next, tell people I like a certain political party or religion?

We have run some Facebook ads ourselves and I know the options are friends of friends or everyone on Facebook but I don’t recall the “lie to people that their friends like the page” option.

I also found this Yahoo article "LowerMyBills.Com" Ads Claiming an Obama Housing Refinance Program Completely Bogus and they certainly have no friends at Consumer Affairs with a 1 star rating most likely because a ZERO is not an option.

In other news I have 19 matches waiting for me on a website I never joined. Sweet.
