Facebook verifying (popular only) celebrities, journalists, and brands

Posted by: Tim Tibbetts on 05/29/2013 01:30 PM [ comments Comments ]

Today Facebook launched verified Pages to help people find the authentic accounts of celebrities and other high-profile people and businesses on Facebook. Verified Pages have a small, blue check mark beside their name on timelines, in search results, and elsewhere on Facebook.

Verified Pages belong to a small group of prominent public figures (celebrities, journalists, government officials, popular brands and businesses) with large audiences. This update is rolling out to profiles as well.

Learn more about verified Pages and profiles in the Help Center. Facebook proactively verifies authentic Pages and profiles, but if you believe that you're being impersonated you can always report a fake account.

We checked and all we got was:

"Some well-known public figures and Pages with large followings (ex: celebrities, journalists, government officials, popular brands and businesses) are verified by Facebook as having an authentic identity. You'll see a blue badge next to their names. Hover over the blue badge on a verified profile or Page to learn more.

We verify profiles or Pages to help you be sure that they are who they claim to be. Keep in mind that not all authentic profiles and Pages are verified and that you can't request to have your profile or Page verified. You can report fake accounts that are impersonating you, your business or your brand."

So, wait for it....
