If you have a friend who is asking you to download a video, it could be a scam.
A new spam campaign is making the rounds on Facebook that tries to lure users to download a fake YouTube page supposedly featuring a friend's video but is instead malware.
According to a scam alert from research firm ESET, victims receive either a false notification that they were tagged in a friend's timeline post, or a message purportedly sent by a friend via Messenger.
The title is often simply “My first video,” “My video,” or “Private video,” compelling users to click on a link that takes them to a fake YouTube site. The user is then instructed to click on a plug-in to view the content. What it actually does is fills the victim's wall with fake videos and sends the same “My first video” messages to that person's friends, further propagating the threat.
At this point, the malware only affects users of Google Chrome.
