Fake Bitly links deliver trojan

Posted by: Timothy Weaver on 05/22/2015 08:31 AM [ comments Comments ]

Imitation Bitly links are being used to spread malware.

According to Malwarebytes, some fake links are said to lead to free video game downloads. However, computers are being put at risk of being infected with malware.

The fake links begin with btly[DOT]pw which leads victims to a free file sharing website where they can download and extract a file. The file downloads a trojan to your system. In some observed cases, users are directed to disable their protection software to enable the download.

Malwarebytes also noticed a fake link to a fake BBC website advertising questionable dietary supplements.

Malwarebytes reminds users that Bitly links always begin with bit.ly, and all others should be ignored.
