The web surfing habits of some federal employees while on the job are putting America at risk. This bold statement comes from a recently obtained Freedom of Information Act record; the record detailed a General Services Administration employee whom visited a porn site, among other questionable destinations, which in turn infected the un-named employee's email and subsequently sent out other infected emails to everyone in the GSA address book.
The GSA employee's X-rated surfing habit were not an isolated incident, according to the Daily Mail, a congressional committee grilled leaders of the Environmental Protection Agency recently, following reports that an agency employee confessed to spending between two and six hours per day viewing pornography on his government-issued computer during work hours.
Witnesses in the House Oversight and Government Reform committee hearing confirmed that the worker, whose name has not been disclosed, is still receiving his $120,000 salary and continues to have full access to EPA computers.
When an investigator went to interview him, he was at his desk surfing sexually explicit websites.
"How much pornography would it take for an EPA employee to lose their job?" asked an incredulous Rep. Darrell Issa, the California Republican who chairs the committee.
The employee under investigation confessed to spending, on average, between two and six hours per day viewing pornography while at work, EPA Deputy Inspector General Allan Williams continued in his prepared remarks. During the course of the OIG investigation it was determined that more than 7,000 pornographic files were downloaded and viewed during work hours.
Williams said that the Department of Justice is considering prosecuting the man, but he hasn't been fired.
So, to answer the question "how much pornography would it take for an EPA employee to lose their job?" The answer is obviously viewing 7001 files, or more...
