CNN has reported that Federal investigators have recommended charges be filed against at least one employee with the St. Louis Cardinals who may have gained unauthorized access into the Houston Astros's database.
Authorities believe that the breach was in retaliation for data that was stolen after Jeff Luhnow left the Cardinals to become Astros General Manager.
No one has been indicted yet but the officials said the FBI's Houston office has concluded their investigation and are awaiting word from the U.S. Attorney's office. According to CNN, investigators are exploring whether senior management was aware of the crime.
Already fired by the Cardinals is scouting director Chris Correa. Correa has maintained that he was innocent although he was under investigation. His attorney said Correa denied wrongdoing and suggested the investigation should focus on information allegedly stolen by former Cards employees.
