A mother in Missouri is facing DWI and child endangerment charges stemming from an accident on the interstate involving fireworks that were set off inside of her vehicle.
KMOV reports, Kara Koriath, 43, was charged with driving while intoxicated, second-degree assault and child endangerment.
According to the Missouri Highway Patrol, Koriath was driving on northbound Interstate 270 near Interstate 64 around 6 a.m. when fireworks went off inside the vehicle, causing her to veer off the interstate.
Her vehicle then struck a sign injuring Koriath and her two sons. All three were taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
Missouri Highway Patrol Sgt. Al Notham was quoted by Fox2Now as saying, "every year we get those calls of people shooting fireworks outside their vehicle," Notham goes on to say "they light them and throw the bottle rockets out. We don’t know yet if that’s exactly what was going on here. We do know they were ignited in that vehicle."
The accident tied up traffic for several hours creating major delays.
