During a backyard party in Fort Myers, FL., a small child was sucked into a drainpipe and taken on a wild 300 yard ride ultimately being shot out into the Caloosahatchee River.
The boy received minor injuries and is now at Lee Memorial Hospital. He's about 5-years-old, according to whatBattalion Chief Chris Bevan told the News-Press.
The incident happened during a storm at the intersection of Florida Avenue and Avocado Drive. Bevan said firefighters received the call around 5:15 p.m.
The boy was in the drainpipe for about or minute or two before he was dumped into the river, Bevan said.
He was sucked in while playing with two other kids. One of the kids went inside to tell adults, who jumped into the ditch to see if he was there.
When they didn't see him, they ran along the drainpipe until they heard the child yell after coming out of the river
"He climbed himself out of the river," Bevan said. "Climbed out before anyone found him"
The boy went through 300 yards of drainpipe before being dumped into the river. "I want to say it was like a water slide."
