A three car accident lands a man in Clearwater, FL, in some hot water after he assaulted a firefighter that was attempting to help at the scene, he then tries to speed off at a high rate of speed without moving his truck. Yes, of course alcohol was a factor!
WTSP report that police responded to the scene of a three-vehicle wreck Wednesday afternoon, where one driver reportedly punched a fire inspector and then burned a hole in the pavement trying to get away.
According to reports, the incident happened around 4:30 p.m. on Myrtle Avenue just north of Court Street.
Upon arrival, Fire Inspector Ron Neuberger tried to reach into one of the vehicles involved to make sure the ignition was turned off, and that's when the driver, Gary Steven Cook, reportedly punched him.
Cook was taken into custody, and officials say he faces a felony charge of battery on a firefighter, as well as a felony DUI charge- reportedly one of three previous DUI convictions.
As for the hole burned in the ground, crews had to close the southbound lanes of Myrtle Avenue to fill it. Right after the accident, Cook reportedly gunned his gas pedal in an attempt to get away, but because he was blocked by two other cars and unable to move, his tire burned the road and dug a hole several inches deep.
