A Pasco County man was arrested after a bizarre pursuit that all started as a simple equipment violation. Christopher George Conti, 46, was observed by Florida Highway Patrol driving a Chevy pickup truck that had a severely cracked windshield when the trooper attempted to stop Conti he did not stop but continued on down the road.
The trooper pulled alongside Conti at a traffic light and Conti indicated he was going to pull over - he did not. The trooper tried again at another light and received the same indication.
The trooper who originally saw Conti monitored him from a distance and saw Conti stop in a turn lane and light up a crack pipe - guess if you know you are going to jail might as well finish up your crack. Conti then drove over a median and drove eastbound with one flat tire.
Conti also attempted to ram one patrol car and was successful in ramming another during the slow speed pursuit. Eventually, either the truck or Conti lost some steam and the pursuit ended. According to WFLA, Conti yelled, “I’m out of my mind on drugs,” according to the arrest affidavit.
Deputies say Conti dropped a glass pipe out of the window of the truck. The pipe later tested positive for cocaine. He had one favor for the officer booking him - “Can you note in your report I was cranked out of my ******* mind when you tried to stop me?” Sure, pal - you got it!
He was booked on a slew of charges.
