Using a cell phone jammer in his class room, a Florida teacher was suspended without pay.
Dean Liptak just wanted to prevent his students from using their cell phone while in class.
Verizon noticed a blockage on the cell tower located on campus. It was traced back to the teacher. Liptak allegedly used the device between March 31 and April 2.
Liptak's superintendent, Kurt Browning, said the teacher used “poor judgment” and “posed a serious risk to critical safety communications, as well as the possibility of preventing others from making 9-1-1 calls.”
Liptak responded that he only used the device to keep his students "academically focused." He complained that it was unproductive to confiscate the cell phones and their use caused disruptions when he had to stop class to tell students to put the cell phones away.
