Too cold to run; an escaped prisoner from a minimum security facility in Lexington, KY., decided that it was much too cold to stay on the lamb.
Robert Vick, 42, had been on the run for just about 24 hours when the extreme temperatures caused him him to give up hopes of freedom and yearn for the warmth of his cell.
Vick, who is apparently not the brightest, turned himself at the reception desk of a motel in Frankfort, KY. According to the NY Post, rather than attempt to rent a room; Vick made the decision, as temperatures dropped into the low single digits Monday, to walk into a motel and asked the clerk to call police. The clerk obliged and Vick was remanded back to the custody of the Department of Corrections.
The temperatures dipped to minus 20 and according to Department of Corrections spokeswoman Lisa Lamb, Vick would have been only dressed in prison-issued khaki pants, a shirt and a jacket when he escaped.
The devil is in the details.
