Games on Google Play Infected With Click Malware

Security firm Checkpoint has discovered a huge malware campaign on Google Play Store that has affected at least 36.5 million Android devices.

What the security firm found was that there are 41 Android applications that were uploaded by a Korean company that is making money by creating fake advertisement clicks from the infected devices.

The Korea-based company, Kiniwini, published the apps under the name of ENISTUDIO Corp. which contain malware, named Judy, which generate fraudulent clicks to generate revenue from advertisements.

"It is quite unusual to find an actual organization behind the mobile malware, as most of them are developed by purely malicious actors," CheckPoint researchers say.

Once downloaded, the app connects to a command and control server which sends a Java Script to the device.

"The malware opens the URLs using the user agent that imitates a PC browser in a hidden webpage and receives a redirection to another website," the researchers say. "Once the targeted website is launched, the malware uses the JavaScript code to locate and click on banners from the Google ads infrastructure."
