According to German trade publication Behörden Spiegel, a German missile installation was reportedly hacked by unknown hackers that temporarily executed “unexplained commands.”
The Patriot missiles system, stationed on the Turkey/Syria border, was either accessed through a computer chip that guides missiles or through a real-time information exchange that allows missiles and their control system to communicate.
The magazine did not list the "unexplained commands", however, experts have speculated that commands could lead to a battery failing to intercept a missile or possibly send a missile to an unintended target. Further, such an attack could also reveal sensitive info.
The German Federal Ministry of Defense has denied the report as lacking evidence.
The missile battery consists of six launchers and two radars.
