Ercan Findikoglu, 33, a Turkish man, is accused of stealing nearly $60 million in ATM heists and cyber attacks.
Findikoglu faced an extradition hearing from his jail cell in Germany. He will be flown to New York this Tuesday after losing his fight against extradition from his German prison.
Findikoglu stands accused of leading a hacking group between 2011-2013 and breaking into the networks of payment processing companies to remove withdrawal limits and account balances on prepaid debit cards and withdraw money.
He was arrested by German police at the Frankfurt airport in December of 2013. The extradition hearing was brought about because the German government felt that any prosecution of Findikoglu in the U.S. courts would result in an extreme prison sentence.
He has been regarded by the German courts as the most wanted computer hacker in the world. In spite of that, the German government agreed to extradite him even though they felt that the possibility that he could be sentenced to 250 years in prison if convicted in the U.S. was extreme.
