Ghost in the machine: Exorcisms via Skype

If you have spent anytime on Skype then you have probably noticed that everyone looks like they might be possessed from time to time; with video trails, odd audio and horribly frozen screen faces that would scare a baby. Well, this is not that - this is an honest to goodness exorcism performed by Rev. Bob Larson of Arizona.

According to ABC15, β€œIn simple terms, an exorcism is the process of expelling an evil spirit from an individual who has become somehow invaded and demonized by that being, and sending it back to hell and freeing the person,” Larson said.

In the age of electronics, exorcisms are done over Skype. Which is not crazy at all.....right? Not so crazy that CNN and ABC didn't pick up on the story.

β€œIt’s real,” Larson says. β€œThere would be no reason to theatrically stage this for any reason. Why would anybody do that? I have no idea.” Maybe for all the demon clicks and up votes?

Rev. Larson claims to have performed about 20,000 exorcisms with a number of them done via Skype, but as outlined above it is hard to tell if they are possessed or just attempting to talk normally through Skype. ;)

Without my coffee I need an exorcism....stat!
