Gmail and Google+ experience temporary worldwide disruption

Posted by: Jon Ben-Mayor on 01/24/2014 03:14 PM [ comments Comments ]

Google experienced a sporadic worldwide outage this afternoon and was only partially resolved as of 3:00 (EST). The service was originally down for just about everyone attempting to access their Gmail or Google + accounts.

As of right now it is being reported as an "service disruption" on the Apps Status Dashboard.

Tech Crunch reports that the initial error that was seen by most users was a (500) code problem, which pretty much just indicates that it’s a temporary problem and doesn’t give a clue as to cause. Judging by the response on Twitter, however, the problem is currently affecting a huge number of users. Google+ is also down, although you’d be forgiven for not having noticed that sooner.

Google has not commented on the outage as of yet - but we will keep an eye out for any further information as it becomes available.
