Google seems to be abandoning its Pixel Chromebooks in favor of its in house brands of tablets and smartphones.
The company’s hardware chief, Rick Osterloh, says it has no plans to continue the brand while leaving it up to third party makers like Asus, Acer, HP, and Samsung to fill in the gaps.
Google has sold out of their inventory of Pixel Chromebooks and has no plans to continue the line. A check at the Google Store shows there are no Pixel laptops available.
Google built the original Pixel in 2013 and met a lot of resistance to the idea. However, it had evolved into a capable (though still web-centric) operating system. It’s one of the top choices for laptops in education markets.
Osterlohs interview with TechCrunch seems to imply that the company may be working on a new line.
