Google pushes to encrypt data

Posted by: Timothy Weaver on 09/10/2013 02:57 PM [ comments Comments ]

In spite of a court order for Google and others to turn over data on users, Google is rushing to accelerate its effort to encrypt user data at every possible point.

Server-side encryption is being added to the Google Cloud Storage platform as announced by Google to assure users.

According to the Washington Post, Google is also planning to encrypt data traveling between all of its data centers.

security engineering VP Eric Grosse referred to it as “an arms race” with government agencies being “among the most skilled players in this game”.

It is hoping to close any open back doors.
