Google is taking after Yahoo and eliminating passwords. Beta testers are logging on without passwords, instead they are using authenticates by responding to a notification sent to a smartphone.
Reported by Techcrunch, the test follows Yahoo's approach with its recently launched “Account Key.” Once the user receives the phone notification it then opens the app allowing the user to approve the login.
Password free logins will have a warm welcome from all the users who complain about having to remember passwords and having to change them frequently. IT professionals and hackers alike view passwords as major security vulnerabilities.
Google's new login methodology streamlines the process, although users still need to input an email address to sign into a Google account. All that it then takes to gain access is a tap on “yes.”
This new system will work across platforms so that once a smartphone gains access so would the user's laptop.
