Here is a good read to for anyone about protecting yourself on Facebook but it also applies to almost anything online. This covers an important point that we always tell people. Stop. Think. Connect. It is always a good idea to slow down.

In their words:
“This guide is all about empowering you to Own Your Space—to understand what Facebook is doing to make the site safe and secure and to take the actions that are needed in this new digital world to protect yourself and your account.

While the focus of this guide is on Facebook, the lessons here apply to every site you visit online. Throughout the guide, we will highlight the unique tools that Facebook provides so that you can harness your power by protecting your account, using advanced security settings, recovering a hacked Facebook account, and stopping imposters. “

The guide was written by:
Linda McCarthy, the former Senior Director of Internet Safety at Symantec. Linda brings 20 years of experience in areas of security education, auditing, and product development.
Keith Watson, a security research engineer at Purdue University. His research areas: security architecture, biometrics, digital forensics, privacy and secure programming.
Denise Weldon-Siviy, a teacher and editor with two decades of editing experience and a house full of teenage Facebook users.
