Hackers Targeting Fish and Wildlife Agency's

Posted by: Timothy Weaver on 08/29/2016 09:23 AM [ comments Comments ]

Hackers are now targeting state fish and wildlife agencies in Washington, Oregon and Idaho. The agency's themselves are not being hacked, but rather the vendors operating their online licensing system.

Jim Unsworth, director of Washington's Department of Fish and Wildlife, said: "The department is taking the steps necessary to ensure the sales site is secure and our customers' information is protected." In the meantime, the department is offering free fishing and parking access through Aug. 30. This is to give the state Cyber Security agency to investigate the breach.

Oregon’s Department of Fish and Game have not found any evidence of a breach other than an individual claiming that he carried out an attack on the agency's contact page. Nevertheless, the agency has stopped selling licenses as has Idaho and is referring customers to its local offices to procure them, which operate on a separate system.

In June, the Vermont Department of Fish and Wildlife was also subjected to a breach.
