On this day in 1984, Soviet programmer, Alexey Pajitnov, released the soon to be iconic game of Tetris. The release was during the time Pajitnov was employed by the Dorodnicyn Computing Centre of the Academy of Science in Moscow. The popularity of the game skyrocketed in 1989 when Nintendo released it for GameBoy. The rest of the story just fits into place like.....
Pajitnov derived its name from the Greek numerical prefix tetra- (all of the game's pieces contain four segments) and tennis, which was his favorite sport.
