The Hard Rock Hotel and Casino has been hacked. The company posted a notice of the hack, which occurred over an eight month period, on its website.
Law enforcement has been notified, and the attack has been stopped. The information that may have been stolen includes names, credit and debit card numbers and CVV codes. PIN numbers were not compromised.
The hack occurred between Sept. 2, 2014 and April 2 this year. Although the hotel and casino were not hacked, the restaurants, bars and retail shops inside its large facility suffered the attack.
A ram scraper was the cause of the hack and retailers are being advised to upgrade their Point of Sale hardware to point-to-point encryption, thought that would be expensive.
