Acting assistant Homeland Security secretary Roberta Stempfley, the medical insurance bazaar HealthCare.gov, has been attacked at least 16 times. Stempfley did not disclose the nature of the attackes.
In a separate but related matter, US authorities are investigating the release of a "denial-of-service tool" designed to create a DDos attack on the healthcare website. There is also evidence of a utility called the "Destroy Obama Care" which is designed to cripple the site by alternating requests for two different pages on the site.
Security experts continue to warn that the website is not up to par yet and still subject to attacks.
David Kennedy, founder of computer security biz TrustedSec, said the healthcare.gov site "is either hacked already, or will be soon”.
"There is a lot of stuff that we are not publicly disclosing because of the criticality of the findings," Kennedy said. "We don't want to hurt people."
The House of Representatives Science, Space, and Technology Committee is holding hearings on the security and functionality of the HealthCare.gov website.
