Authorities arrested a Panther Creek High senior, seventeen-year-old Saivamsi Krishna Hanumanthu, for hacking into the schools computer system last fall and changing students' grades between Oct. 6-22, 2015.
The hack was discovered and reported to Cary, N.C. police on Oct.13. IT pros checked the system and found a keylogger installed on the system. A hacker had embedded a keystroke logger in an email sent by a teacher to the Panther Creek data manager and which could capture typed in login information.
The investigation quickly focused on Hanumanthu when a teacher found him in a darkened classroom working on a laptop computer. He had changed 90 grades, 45 of his own, and elevated his class standing from 67th to seventh.
Hanumanthu faces felony and misdemeanor charges of accessing government computers as well as a felony count for breaking and entering.
