The rule of thumb really should be quite obvious; do not pick a recognizable identity when you are committing identity theft - it only draws attention. Picking the country's top law enforcement officer is just plain idiotic - even for a stupid criminal.
Yafait Tadesse was sentenced this week to a year and a day in prison for using more than 10 other identities according to Fox News -- including Attorney General Eric Holder's -- to file fraudulent tax returns.
The returns claimed, incorrectly, that the individuals worked at Wal-Mart -- and that refunds should be loaded onto debit cards, to be sent to the same Georgia mailing address.
The fraudulent return that is said to be associated with AG Holder stated that he was an employee of Wal-mart.
According to a statement from the Department of Justice, the use of Attorney General Holder's information does not appear to have been specifically targeted in the theft. But more than likely the information was obtained from "publicly available websites." Which is comforting......
Tadesse was also ordered to pay just over $4000 in restitution after he is released from federal prison. When he emerges in a year - he will most likely emerge a different person.
