A truck driver was arrested for transporting 6,700 pounds of marijuana back in 2003 after he was caught crossing the Otay Mesa border near San Diego, CA. Four other co-conspirators were also arrested for the inky conspiracy; they were caught attempting to replace the cases of marijuana for squid at a truck stop along the border.
According to U-T San Diego, Roberto Armenta-Orozco's manifest claimed he was transporting the frozen squid, which was ultimately destined for South Korea. South Korea?
A narcotic detector dog alerted authorities to the presence of a drug emanating from Armenta-Orozco's trailer, but the defendant claimed he was unaware of the situation when he dropped off the trailer at a nearby truck stop.
A jury found Armenta-Orozco guilty of conspiracy to distribute marijuana, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and importation of marijuana.
The story may be old - but it still made me smile...cannabis calamari!
