Anastasio N. Laoutaris, 41, of Spring, Texas, was handed a nine-year prison sentence and a $1.7 million fine for hacking into the computer system of his former employer.
Laoutaris had been an IT engineer for the law firm of Locke Lord from 2006 to 2011. Four months after his employment ended, he hacked into the company’s network and started deleting user accounts. He also deleted desktop and laptop accounts as well as user email accounts.
He was convicted in October of two counts of intentionally accessing a computer network without authorization and intentionally issuing commands and codes that damaged the network.
He could have received a 10 year prison sentence and a $250,000 fine on each count.
