ISIS now armed with ransomware (Video)

Posted by: Jon Ben-Mayor on 11/08/2014 07:48 AM [ comments Comments ]

ISIS has somehow gained access to a ransomware program which is reported to have come from their sworn enemies - the Syrian electronic army. The attack, which is directed at Australia - this time, was detected by international cyber-crime company checkpoint ThreatCloud.

"Their ultimate goal and they've said it quite clearly is the destruction of western society so the fact they're going to take that to a cyber frontier is nothing that should be unexpected," Rich Costanzo from FireEye International said.

The ransomware invasion of Australia's computer systems including Cryptolocker has claimed tens of thousands of victims in less than three months.

Cryptolocker sees users open innocent looking emails which encrypt and lock their computers, the only recourse in unlocking your machine is to pay the ransom to the cyber thieves.
