So there is a way to get your time "commuted" without a pardon from the POTUS; it consists of first being assigned to a road work detail and then ultimately being run over by an eighteen wheeler. Downside of this plan is that you will need to sustain serious injuries.
Three woman were working a road detail when this very scenario played out - sending one woman to the hospital with serious injuries and the other two back to jail.
According to KGW, Angela Baca, 40, was with Lynette Urwin, 42, and Ruby Johnson, 31, cleaning up litter and storm debris on the side of the freeway Tuesday when 44-year-old Edwin Gagarin reportedly choked on coffee and passed out behind the wheel of his big-rig.
Gagarin then veered out of his lane, hit the women and plowed into a fence along I-5 where the truck came to rest on its side.
Baca was transported to the hospital with very serious injuries. The other two were checked out by emergency crews and sent back to jail.
After hearing of the accident, a Multnomah County judge waived the remainder of Baca's sentence to allow family to care for her at the hospital.
I can see it now - inmates will be flinging themselves into the path of vehicles to get sentences shortened...
