Tatsuo Nakazono and Katsuya Sahashi, both 28, were part of a 100 member gang that hit ATM machines on a Sunday and made off with what is estimated at $13 million.
The pair are charged with using fake credit cards to withdraw $11,000 from two convenience stores in central Japan. It is believed that they used the fake cards a total of 12 times. It was all part of a coordinated heist that was carried out in Tokyo and Osaka.
The heist was done using fake credit cards from South Africa's Standard Bank. The bank estimates the losses at $19 million.
ATM machines have a limit as to how much one can withdraw in one day, so it is assumed that the thieves somehow disabled the limits on the machines. It is estimated that 100 members of the gang pulled off the heist by hitting 1,400 ATM machines in a matter of three hours.
