Java biggest vulnerability in 2013

According to new research from Cisco, 2013 was another tough year for network security. In particular, Java and Android.

Cisco published its Annual Report and found that Java was responsible for 91 per cent of all web-based exploits in 2013. Andorid mobile devices were responsible for 99 per cent of all mobile malware.

How prevalent is the malware? Cisco analyzed business networks and found that 92 per cent showed traffic to websites with no content, which typically host malware. Traffic to hijacked servers accounted for 96 per cent of the networks and, most disturbing is that 100% of the networks examined had traffic going to servers that were known malware hosts.

Cisco's 2014 Annual Security Report warns, "All organizations should assume they've been hacked, or at least agree that it's not a question of if they will be targeted for an attack, but when ... and for how long."
