Cybercriminals made off with $1.1 million from a phishing scam.
Who was scammed - New York State Supreme Court Justice Lori Sattler.
How was she scammed - Sattler was fooled by a phishing email she thought was from her estate lawyer. The email directed her to wire the money to the Commerce Bank of China.
When did the scam take place - June 7th when the judge was trying to sell her Upper East Side apartment in order to purchase another.
The Office of Court Administration declined to comment on the situation, but did confirm the incident did take place.
Lucian Chalfen, a spokesman for the Office of Court Administration, only had this to say: "It is correct that the judge was the victim of a crime — and as it is a pending criminal matter we can't comment any further."
Both the FBI and the NYPD are investigating the crime.
