Kaspersky has had enough, and we wonder why no one has complained about Microsoft's tactics with Windows Defender.
I've run into numerous instances where an antivirus has expired and Microsoft replaced it with Windows Defender, a subpar antivirus any knowledgeable geek wouldn't be placed in their top1 10 choices. In other words, your typical geek would pick AVG, Avira, Avast, BitDefender, Panda, NOD and yes, Kaspersky.
As they pointed out in their blog post, "Microsoft elegantly seizes niche markets by squeezing out independent developers and offering users its products, which are in no way better" as well as "Defender is far from the best protection you can get. In fact – just the opposite".
The most important truth would be that cybercriminals would be most pleased of all to see Microsoft Defender’s domination in the cyber security market.
They go on to explain their David and Goliath fight in the hopes that Microsoft understands that independent software developers for Windows need to unite and all fight together.
We noted some time ago that we have seen this happen and you can't simply remove Defender easily. But we did figure it out and here's how you can Remove Windows Defender from Windows 10 and Windows 8.1.
If you're looking for a 5-star, free alternative, check out all of our popular antivirus apps here.
What happens from here? We don't know. While it's hard to figure out how Microsoft profits from this, we don't like it. A prepare page with options, or a reminder to renew your subscription is what is needed here.
