KFC has a rewards program in the U.K. consisting of 1.2 million users. The company, Yum Brands, is advising its members to change their passwords as the company suffered a breach in their security.
The information stolen consisted of names, addresses, and e-mail addresses. Credit card information is not stored so there was no banking info stolen. The company is advising the change after 30 members were targeted.
“We take the online security of our fans very seriously, so we’ve advised all Colonel’s Club members to change their passwords as a precaution, despite only a small number of accounts being directly affected. We don’t store credit card details as part of our Colonel’s Club rewards scheme, so no financial data was compromised.”
In its advisory to members, KFC said it has “introduced additional security measures to further safeguard our members’ accounts and to stop this kind of thing happening again."
KFC is not the only chain owned by Yum Brands, they also own Pizza Hut and Taco Bell which are located in 135 countries.
Customers are also advised to change passwords that are reused on other sites. Reuse of passwords is a security challenge. Hackers target user credentials in hopes people reused them at other more sensitive email and financial accounts.
