The lead investigator assigned to the 2012 prostitution scandal has resigned when allegations that he also enjoyed the company of working girls. The 2012 scandal involved agents on the Presidential detail - the agents were on assignment in Cartagena, Colombia, as part of an advance team that were sent in ahead of the POTUS.
David Nieland's troubles began when he inadvertently entered a known prostitution location, which happened to be under surveillance by the Broward County Sheriff's Office.
According to Fox News, authorities later interviewed a prostitute who identified Nieland in a photo and said he had paid her for sex.
Nieland resigned after he refused to answer questions from a Department of Homeland Security official about the incident.
Nieland, the former head of the inspector general's Miami office, said "the allegation is not true" and declined to answer any questions from the paper.
Earlier this month, The Washington Post reported that Nieland told Senate aides conducting their own investigation into the scandal that he was instructed to delay his report until after the 2012 presidential election. I wonder if this tidbit figures into how he, a seasoned Secret Service agent, managed to pick the one brothel which was under surveillance?
