A new ransomware attack dubbed Linux.Encoder.1 is targeting web servers.
Identified by Dr.Web, the malware is targeting web servers using the Linux operating system. Once it has control of the system, it demands a payment of one bitcoin, $380, to release the files.
Dr.Web has not been forthcoming as to how many servers have been affected as yet. And the payload has not been identified, but in some cases the attackers used the CMS Magneto vulnerability to attack the web servers.
Once launched the malware encrypts all files in the home and website administration directories. It then goes on to infect all files with the extension the criminals specify.
The final step has the bad guys planting a ransom demand saying if the payment is not received the files will remain unobtainable.
