Seth Nolan McDonagh, 18,a.k.a., “Narko,” was sentenced, on Friday, to 240 hours of community service.
His crime has been called one of the biggest cyberattacks in history.
McDonagh, in 2013, launch a series of distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks against anti-DDoS specialist Cloudflare and anti-junk mail organization Spamhaus. According to the Daily Mail, his attack slowed the internet around the world.
After his arrest, authorities found about $108,430 in his bank account and 1,000 credit card numbers from German financial institutions.
His guilty plea encompassed two counts of unauthorized modification of computer material, one count of possessing articles for fraud, one count of transferring criminal property and one count possession of 924 indecent photos of children.
Because of his young age and what the court determined was mental disease, he was only sentenced to community service rather than jail time.
