Nina Davuluri of Fayetteville, the 24 year old who aspires to become a physician like her father, has been named Miss America.
This marks the first time an Indian American has been selected for the crown.

This is the second consecutive year Miss New York has won the competition.
She is the second Miss Syracuse to be named Miss America. In 1983, Miss Syracuse's Vanessa Williams was named Miss America.
She will earn at least $50,000 in scholarships.

Now that she's won the crown, she will take part in the traditional frolic in the Atlantic City surf Monday morning. After that, she will travel to Seaside park and Seaside Heights in New Jersey, where a horrific boardwalk fire devastated those towns.
She will then embark on a year-long national speaking tour, traveling about 20,000 miles a month, to a different city every other day, addressing diverse audiences, increasing awareness and promoting her chosen platform.
