Malwarebytes is starting to see browser toolbar helpers and search agents being embed with Bitcoin mining.
The miner in question is jhProtominer, We Build Toolbars (WBT) is the group that is taking responsibility for the "malware".
Not such a new idea, except that WBT is trying to tie up the consumer with the following EULA:
“As part of downloading a Mutual Public, [the name it uses for the installer – The Register] your computer may do mathematical calculations for our affiliated networks to confirm transactions and increase security. Any rewards or fees collected by WBT or our affiliates are the sole property of WBT and our affiliates.”
According to this post, WBT uses a custom installer, Monitor.exe.
Your Free Proxy is another that has been found to use the Monitor.exe. in its installation.
Bitcoin mining has the effect of slowing down your computer and pinches CPU time and bandwidth.
