While walking his dog, Geoffrey Eltgroth, 26, of Leander, Texas decided to change the highway construction sign.
He admitted the offence when questioned by authorities. The affidavit said that he admitted to having typed “‘Drive Crazy Yall’” to display on the board.
How did he do it? He admitted that he changed the sign by guessing what must have been a very easy password. He admitted that he entered a user name and a guessed password to change the sign from displaying “construction ahead” warning because he thought it was humorous.
The charge he faces for tampering with the sign is criminal mischief: tampering with transportation communication equipment. For such a prank, Eltgroth could be convicted of a third-degree felony, punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
He remains in prison as of this writing.
