A man in Liverpool, UK, thought that calling in a bomb threat was a much better idea than fessing up to the bride to be and her family that he did not book the reception hall - on the day of the wedding. WOW. That is always my go to when I am afraid to tell my significant other something - bomb!
The Daily Mail reports that Neil McArdle, 36, called the venue saying an explosive device had been left inside the building.
His unwitting wife-to-be turn up at St George's Hall in Liverpool to find an evacuated building.
McArdle, of Kirkby, Merseyside, is now facing a jail sentence after admitting to the hoax call.
Amy Williams was expecting to tie the knot with McArdle at Liverpool Register Office, which is based within the hall, in April this year.
McArdle and his wife-to-be had penciled in a date and were given 'right to marry' paperwork to be filled in.
But by the morning of the big day the groom realized he had not completed the forms and the venue was not officially booked.
Instead of owning up, McArdle called the St George's from a phone booth near his home.
He told the receptionist: 'There’s a bomb in St George’s Hall and it will go off in 45 minutes.'
After hanging up, dozens of people were evacuated from the building as police and bomb disposal teams were sent to the scene.
'The whole wedding party turned up to this bomb scare and then they found out there was no actual booking.'
McArdle was arrested and charged later that day.
It is understood the husband-to-be made full and frank admissions to police, admitting he sparked the hoax in a bid to postpone the wedding and buy himself more time.
He will be sentenced at Liverpool Crown Court later this month.
