A Syracuse, NY, man attacked a deputy with a baseball bat as he was assisting a codes enforcement officer that was attempting to have the mans overgrown lawn mowed. The town had hired an outside contractor to clean up the severely overgrown yard due to ongoing violation.
According to Syracuse.com Gregory Rowe, of 502 Garden City Drive, was charged with attempted aggravated assault upon a police officer, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, obstructing governmental administration, second-degree menacing and resisting arrest.
Around noon Tuesday, a sheriff's deputy was helping a Salina codes enforcement officer. The town of Salina had hired a contractor to mow the overgrown lawn at Rowe's Garden City Drive home, which was in violation of town codes.
Rowe, 50, became irate when he learned that his lawn would be mowed and attacked a deputy with an aluminum baseball bat, the sheriff's office said. The bat hit the deputy in the forearm. The deputy pepper-sprayed Rowe and wrestled him to the ground, the sheriff's office said.
A quick 360 degree look around the neighborhood with Google street view will clue you in on why his lawn was in violation.
