This is quite possibly the one of the most insane vans ever. Steve Wirth of Marine City, MI., has packed his Dodge Ram 2500 van full of every gadget you could imagine, making the van a rolling spectacle of electronic ingenuity.
According to the Detroit Free Press, Wirth admits; “I know I’m high-functioning autistic, but exactly what that means I don’t know,” the 30-year-old said impassively. “Honestly, it doesn’t really mean much. I really don’t pay much attention when doctors speak.”
Some people with autism have a single talent that borders on genius, like math or music. Steve’s is electronics. He can take just about any appliance apart, put it back together or combine it with another device in some improbable combination.
His van draws crowds on the street, wins awards at auto shows and earns pull-overs by police, especially after he covered all its windows and relied on video cameras to relay what was going on outside as he drove.
There’s a working toaster in it. And a microwave. It’s got TVs and VCRs. All kept alive by 10 car batteries and so many alternators that he once powered a whole house using the van.
“It started out as a cure for boredom, which is kind of funny because my cure for boredom got me famous,” he said. “It’s my rolling résumé.”
